Kimetsu No Yaiba

Kimetsu No Yaiba or Demon Slayer was released in the spring of 2019 and was one of the most anticipated in 2019, partly because 2019 had many anime released in the winter and spring that broke multiple records, like Domestic Girlfriend, The Promised Neverland and the modern remake of Dororo, an absolute timeless classic. Because of this, Kimetsu no Yaiba had a lot of pressure riding on it, and the anime audience was anticipating for an amazing shounen once more, and ufotable definitely delivered..

The rundown of Kimetsu no Yaiba begins with a family living in a cold, arctic and snowy environment. A young Tanjiro comes home to see his mother and his siblings slaughtered. In his shock and terror he comes up closer to one of his sisters Nezuko and notices that she had a pulse. Saddened, he takes Nezuko and escapes with her. The news of bloodthirsty demons attacking nearby villages was something that Tanjiro's mother reminded him of prior to him leaving his house, and this comes back to him now. The story goes on, and Tanjiro finds out that Nezuko is still alive and now has become a demon herself. Surprisingly she does not attack her brother, yet she defends him against other demons who go on to attack Tanjiro later on in the series as well. Now Tanjiro's motive is to join a corps of demon slayers, people who are dedicated to slaying all the demons as the attacks against the public increase in number, and Tanjiro hopes to find a cure to change his sister back into her original human self. The plot follows Tanjiro's continual improvement in combat as well as his strive to cope with his pressure and curing his sister. While trying to accomplish  his goals, Tanjiro runs across numerous characters who the audience gets to know and love as well.

We as an audience come across loveable characters who also make the show so much better to watch. Usually shounen evolves mainly around the main characters, but this anime revolves around all characters and pays special focus to the interpersonal relationships among the characters.

Along with the amazing characters and encapsulating plot, I need to express my feelings towards the combat animation and art style that ufotable gave to this show. The art style and graphics quality adds another layer to this already fantastic series. The image of the scene below trended on twitter last summer for over 24 hours because anime fans could not stop talking about the animation that ufotable adopted for this series and it all built up to this masterpiece of a shot. All I am going to say is that amazing art adds another layer to any series and although there are many timeless series without fancy graphics, this artstyle put this anime over the top for me personally.

In conclusion, I would say that Kimetsu No Yaiba was my favourite anime series of 2019 and I enjoyed every bit of it. Although I'm not an ultimate fan of shounen, Kimetsu no Yaiba was one of the most enjoyable series I have ever seen, and I would recommend this exciting, thrilling and fast-paced series to anyone who has not seen this yet. Not to mention, the OP is amazing to top it off!

Final Score: 9.7/10
