Kimi No Suizou Wo Tabetai (Let Me Eat Your Pancreas)
Kimi No Suizou Wo Tabetai or Let Me Eat Your Pancreas is an emotional and heartfelt film which released in the summer of 2018. The beautiful spring season has washed over Japan and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. We meet two high school students Sakura Yamauchi along with a 'boring' and 'dull' boy. What becomes of this film and with these two characters is a true masterpiece to any anime fan out there!
The film begins at Sakura's funeral and we observe her friends and family mourning her passing. The scene jumps to Shiga Haruki, her best friend crying in his bed on the day of Sakura's funeral. From this short introduction we see the sheer emotion that this film has to offer.
The movie cuts to a hospital waiting lobby where Shiga is waiting patiently to get his appendectomy stitches removed. He notices a book being dropped on the floor as some kids knock it off a chair. Being an avid reader, he picks it up to read the title, Living With Dying. We see a surprised Sakura behind him and asking him to return to her the journal that Shiga had found. We find out that Sakura has a pancreatic disease which meant that she would die in the coming few years.
Sakura asks Shiga to become friends as one of her 'wishes before she dies' and although having opposite personalities, they both become close friends. The film follows their friendship up until Sakura's sudden death.
After Sakura's passing, Shiga comes over to her parents' house and receives this diary that she had left for him before she died.
The film follows a very interesting and emotional story of perfect friendship and sorrow. The progression that Shiga and Sakura's relationship follows really makes this film a 100% recommendation. We see the affection that both of them had for each other and the film leaves viewers crying for Sakura and Shiga although we are shown the ending of the plot as soon as the film starts, it leaves us asking for more.
I would be lying to you if I said that I was not crying while watching this movie, and I would even rank it as the best emotional anime film of all time as well as an amazing movie to watch. If you haven't seen this film yet, you are missing out on an emotional roller coaster. If you are new to anime or have been watching for a while, if you enjoy slice of life and drama or even if you don't, Kimi No Suizou Wo Tabetai is a must-watch for any anime fan!
Final Score: 9.5/10 :(
