Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen
Kaguya-sama is a unique romance and comedy which aired in the winter 2019 anime season. The series focuses on two lovebirds; Kaguya and Shirogane. Shirogane is the school's student council president, and Kaguya plays an important role in the student body as well. Both of these characters are 'geniuses' boasting extremely high grades.
Both of these characters have obvious feelings and interest in each other, but the series balances on either of these two characters confessing their feelings to the other one. Over the years, there have been many romantic comedy anime series, but this one seems to be the most unique because it goes past a happy ending and friends hanging out together, but somehow includes those yet presents a new, fresh approach to a genre which has been beaten to the ground with the same arc over and over again!
The series takes a different perspective on a very popular genre. While watching this series I could not help but imagine why other romcom series did not use such a unique arc in order to drive its plot.
The other characters in this series are also quite lovable and cheerful. While people were arguing about Zero-Two and Ichigo from Darling in the Franxx, others were rewatching Chica's dance. The show's other characters drive or stretch Shirogane and Kaguya's tension as well, which makes them feel more impactful when driving the plot home.
Overall, I would recommend this series to most anime fans who enjoy the romance/comedy/slice of life genre, and others who want to see a different take on a classic and humble genre.
Final Score: 9/10
