Shingeki No Kyojin (Attack On Titan)
Where do I begin with this one? Attack on Titan is labeled as one of the best anime of all time on most anime websites and review sites, and for good reason, it's actually one of the very first anime that I watched, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The series is so popular in the international anime community that many of those who don't watch anime or haven't heard of anime, have seen and loved Attack on Titan!
If anyone hasn't heard of this series yet, the series takes place in the past where humans were slaughtered by the enormous and horrifying monsters known as titans. Humans built three walls to protect themselves from these titans, but 100 years later, a giant titan kicked a hole into the outermost wall leading to a titan infiltration where we meet the main characters Eren, Mikasa and Armin.
In the very first episode, we see Eren's mom being eaten by the titan, an action which would later influence him into joining the army. The army are able to kill titans by using their grappling gear and slicing the titans' napes (necks). We find out during season one that certain individuals also have the ability to transform into titans when they bleed. We also see a lot of fighting and combat between the army soldiers and the titans which builds up good character development in the process.
Season two came out a few years ago now, and it continued the same story as season one which was enjoyable since season one was a 'gateway' anime for most people and season two kept them hooked to the same story. Season three part I was released last year and it continued along the same story as well. Since Shingeki No Kyojin was one of my first anime series, I still hold a special place in my heart for it, but so far, I have to say that my favourite season so far was season one as I felt that it made the characters come to life more than the other two seasons so far. Season two and season three part one are also enjoyable, but the character development from season one, put it over the top for me, as I came to love and enjoy the characters' personalities in this season the most.
Although I enjoyed the first and second season, personally I thought that the show started becoming 'dry' after that. I began watching the series because I had just started becoming interested in anime, and I was enticed by the unique and thrilling combat which I saw in the first season of AOT. The arc of Eren becoming a titan as well, was quite interesting to begin with. However, by the end of the second season, and the beginning of the third, the arc of 'everyone becoming a titan' got quite boring. Basically, it turned into a mech anime and the plot itself became quite boring. To be honest, these are the reasons why I dropped the series after watching the second season. It just was not appealing to me anymore, especially during a time where other, more unique anime were coming out.
Overall, I would recommend the first couple seasons to start, and would suggest you guys to continue watching if you enjoyed it.
Final Score: 8/10
