Haikyuu!
Although many sports anime can be repetitive and lack major character development, Haikyuu! is a series that defies that common stereotype by not only bringing breathtaking gameplay and volleyball, but by having emotional, relatable and amicable characters.
Just a heads up, since season 4 of Haikyuu! is coming out later this year, I will add more on to this review after I finish the new season!
The reason why I enjoyed Haikyuu! was because of the balance the series carried out throughout all seasons so far of character development as well as phenomenal, suspenseful and rewarding volleyball games and tournaments. Since it was my first sports anime series, I did not know what to look forward to, but I was truly impressed by the characters' personalities which made ma appreciate this series even more that I did before.
From the very first episode, we observe Hinata's hunger and love for volleyball and simultaneously we see Kageyama. This thrilling first episode allowed me to indulge myself in the series even more and observe the other characters and team members present in the show. Usually characters in sports anime tend to be boring and dull while the action is only on the sport, but in Haikyuu! volleyball elevates the characters and the characters themselves elevate the risks and suspense on the court.
In all of its seasons so far, the series goes into each character's backstory and show the viewers why they play volleyball and they make rich connection with their family members such as Tsukki's older brother.
The characters in the show are so well developed and amicable that at times even members from the opponent team are analyzed in depth such as Oikawa. Occasionally, some light jokes are made between the team members or from the management which allow for more character development as well.
Each and every character in this series is unique and they each have an aspect or quality in which they lack which gets resolved by the team's encouragement and support.
Overall, if anyone has not seen Haikyuu! regardless of if you enjoy volleyball or sports anime, it is a must-watch series!
Final Score: 9/10
