Koe No Katachi (A Silent Voice)
Koe No Katachi is a film which came out in fall 2016 which is one of the most awarded and famous anime films of all time.
This emotional story of a deaf girl named Nishimiya Shoko and her story of getting bullied when she moves to a new school by her classmates, especially by a young boy named Shoya Ishida left many viewers of the film in tears because of such a captivating and emotional story which unfolds throughout the film.
Being the class bully, Shoya disrespected and bullied his new fellow classmate Nishimiya solely because she was vulnerable. He even broke her hearing aid eight times, after which she decided to move schools.
While growing up, Shoya noticed that his school friends eventually began drifiting further and further away from him because he mainly bullied Nishimiya. This gradually makes Shoya realize his mistake and he starts to gain a sense of empathy. He made a plan to apologize to Shoko, but he himself began falling into sadness and darkness when he began to think that everyone else hates him, and he becomes concerned with this past actions.
Fast Forward, and Shoyo now knows and understands sign language, and he learnt it so that he could make up for his past mistakes and befriend Nishimiya.
The story unfolds from there into a plot about romance, true friendship, trust, sympathy, care and compassion.
This nail-biting and emotional story along with relatable and empathetic characters and beautiful animation made Koe No Katachi one of the best anime films of all time.
I myself was feeling for the characters and thoroughly enjoyed the movie as it demonstrated the important and emotional theme of forgiveness as well as friendship.
Anyone looking for an emotional romance, slice of life or drama anime film to delve into, Koe No Katachi is what you're looking for.
